Swedish Welcome – a path to sustainability!
Swedish Welcome is based on the explanatory model from Framework for Strategic Sustainable Development (FSSD). The model provides a number of simple guidelines for developing businesses while keeping within a framework of the basic sustainability principles. The sustainability principles are simple but concrete:
In a sustainable society:
- We cannot dig stuff up from the Earth at a rate faster than it returns and replenishes
- We cannot make chemical stuff at a rate faster than it takes nature to break it down
- We cannot cause destruction to the planet at a rate faster than it takes to regrow
- We cannot do things that cause others not to be able to fulfill their basic needs
In other words, companies, businesses and regions that are part of Swedish Welcome are being developed within the framework of a system with a clear holistic approach to sustainability that is well-founded in research. We can say what we do with confidence and inspire others. Powerful tools such as the Global Goals, Sweden’s Environmental Goals and national and international climate commitments will then become channels that align with our work.
By developing more of the tourism industry’s players towards the Global Goals, we strengthen the image of Sweden as a country with just basic values, an undisturbed natural environment that we safeguard and a safe society for all.
Swedish Welcome has strong overall link to the Global Goals within the following four sub-goals:
8.9 – PROMOTE BENEFICIAL AND SUSTAINABLE TOURISM; By 2030, devise and implement policies to promote sustainable tourism that creates jobs and promotes local culture and products.
12.B – PROMOTE UNIVERSAL UNDERSTANDING OF SUSTAINABLE LIFESTYLES; Develop and implement tools to monitor sustainable development impacts for sustainable tourism that creates jobs and promotes local culture and products.
12.8 – DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT TOOLS TO MONITOR SUSTAINABLE TOURISM; By 2030, ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature.
17.17 – ENCOURAGE EFFECTIVE PARTNERSHIPS; Encourage and promote effective public, public-private and civil society partnerships, building on the experience and resourcing strategies of partnerships.
What makes Swedish Welcome unique is its foundation in a systemic view of sustainability. We can show that the method contributes directly or indirectly to all the 17 goals of the Global Goals. This gives you, as an entrepreneur and business leader, a secure base so together we can contribute to Sweden’s ambition to maintain its global leadership in the work of integrating these goals at all levels of society.
